Alex Woodfolk is a singer-songwriter with heartfelt, natural vocals touring the West Coast. He's written over 100 songs and is mid-way through recording five concept EP albums. Despite strong songwriting, his early home recordings faced phase cancellation issues from microphone placement and recording technique—problems that no amount of mixing could fully resolve.
Rather than simply fixing recordings in the mix, I taught Alex how to record properly from the start. Through screen shares and video conferencing, we covered mic placement techniques for different effects—narrow and balanced versus broad stereo capture—and strategies for recording excellent lead vocals. Once he rerecorded using these methods, his tracks became next-level, allowing me to enhance rather than correct, bringing out the attitude, flavor, and emotion he'd poured into his songwriting and performances.
We worked together on Summer Snow and Crossroads, his first two EPs, plus a Bob Dylan cover single. Beyond mixing and mastering, I provided distribution strategy consulting, finalized album artwork and format decisions, and helped him envision future releases with full arrangements featuring bass players, drummers, and other musicians. Alex's development as an artist has been remarkable—he now has a clear path forward with his remaining three EPs.
